West5 Consulting’s four-phased instructional design process provides a framework to guide the development of customized client solutions from Planning through Execution.
From the beginning of the partnership with each client, West5 conducts project-planning and stakeholder meetings that help us understand what is working, what is not, and the desired outcomes.
Planning sets the stage for the Discovery phase where we test assumptions, uncover additional needs, and gain a deeper understanding of our client and target audience, to ultimately create a custom-designed solution.
The Discovery phase is our platform for gaining a deeper understanding of the target audience, their specific needs, and to test assumptions. We use focus groups, one-on-one interviews, content reviews, and research to increase our organizational knowledge as we conduct the discovery audit. The final Audit Report outlines strategic priorities, addresses issues identified by the client and West5, and includes our recommendations, proposed solutions, and next steps.
Each solution, based on the specific needs of the target audience, is custom designed and uniquely developed for the client. This includes everything from delivery methodologies to materials development to facilitation strategies.
Depending on the engagement, solutions may include: culture initiatives, program curricula, branded workshop materials, train-the-trainer packages, meeting facilitation, and accountability and mentoring programs. We typically create the content and design program materials, while also providing guidance and coaching for subject matter experts to do their own content development under our supervision. Vendor outsourcing and selection, branding and marketing also are often a part of the total solution.
We coach and guide the client throughout execution of their initiative – from a pilot program to global launch and evaluation. Our goal is to build an execution strategy that ensures the custom developed programs and initiatives are tested, executed and embedded within the organization. Our ultimate goal is to provide a smooth transition for client management of the program or initiative, as the final step in the Execution phase.
COMMUNICATION IS KEY TO PROGRAM SUCCESS
A strong communications strategy and plan from West5 supports buy-in across our client’s organization. It focuses on understanding the target audiences, developing key messages and branding used to communicate and market the program goals and objectives, to the appropriate audience.
